Ruth enters 47th District Assembly Race

"Wisconsin is losing too many jobs and economic opportunities are passing us by", DeForest and Village Trustee Erich Ruth said as he announced he will run for the State Assembly on June 5 at the Sunset Grill in DeForest. "My primary focus is on jobs - retaining jobs, raising our standard of living, creating new jobs and giving workers the new skills needed for the jobs of tomorrow".

"Agriculture is one of the largest businesses in our state and one of the major driving forces of cash flow in our communities. Small business accounts for 80% of new job creation and we must recognize this and help make it possible for them to grow, hire and retain employees", said Ruth.

Ruth stated, "The brain drain we have seen in Wisconsin is hurting our growth. Our graduates are leaving because they are not able to secure jobs that meet theirs needs. Business downsizing and moves by Ray-O-Vac/Spectrum Brands, Cold Storage, Harley Davidson, Famous Footwear, and General Motors must be stopped."

Wisconsin has one of the highest tax burdens in the nation, yet the 2007-2009 State Budget proposed over $2 billion in new taxes and fees. Ruth said, "I will promote fiscal restraint on state spending so we can keep more of our money. Cutting taxes will fuel job retention and creation in our state. Increased taxes are forcing young families and senior citizens out of their homes. It's just not right."

Ruth's background includes serving on the DeForest Village Board, the DeForest Area Senior and Community Center Commission, beginning and owning a software development company in DeForest, volunteering as a lector at St. Olaf Church and serving as the president-elect of DeForest Area Rotary Club. Ruth is a fourth generation Wisconsinite, married and has a two year old daughter.

Town of Bristol Chairman Jerry Derr added: "I am very enthusiastic about Erich's candidacy and am delighted to serve as treasurer for his campaign."

Dane County Supervisor Dennis O'Loughlin stated "Erich is a hard-working young man who has a strong grasp of the issues that matter in this district. That's why he has my vote and my support." Dr. John Pickle, Lodi Agronomist, added, "I believe that Erich will make a great representative for us. He will be a strong promoter of job growth and agriculture. His background in small business will serve us well."

"We need a state representative who is not afraid to tackle the issues. I'll listen to the people and work hard to make sure that their voices are heard at the state capitol 365 days a year."

Ruth can be e-mailed at info@ruthforassembly.com or called at home at (608) 846-1132.

Ruth for Assembly held a kick-off event at the Sunset Grill in DeForest on Thursday, June 5.

The 47th Assembly District comprises Northern Dane County, parts of Columbia County and the town and village of Merrimac in Sauk County. The primary election is September 9, 2008 and the general election is November 4, 2008.
